The Rat Pack is best known as a group of major entertainers that included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop who often hung out together in the early 1960s. The term was originally used in the mid-1950s for a gang of famous friends that included Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Judy Garland, David Niven, Sinatra and others.
The early '60s Rat Pack appeared in Las Vegas and in various combinations made movies including the original Oceans 11 and Robin And The Seven Hoods. But most importantly, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. recorded on a regular basis for those three were major entertainers for decades.
Although their style of music declined in popularity with the rise of late 1960s rock, it has been revived many times since the mid-1980s though the originals cannot be topped.
The four-CD set The Rat Pack, which is an import from Europe, features some of the best recordings of the big three. Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin each have a full CD and share the fourth disc. Despite all of the fooling around onstage, all three were serious and influential singers who enjoyed performing high quality standards. They are each heard at their prime throughout this delightful reissue.
