In the late 1960s, young idealists flocked to San Francisco to join in the creation of a new society celebrating peace and love — and lots of rock music. One of the movement's beloved maestros was Chet Helms, whose Avalon Ballroom hosted legendary acts such as Big Brother and the Holding Company, Captain Beefheart and countless others. To publicize Avalon concerts, Helms commissioned posters from local artists — Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelly, Victor Moscoso and others. This calendar reproduces 12 classic posters, today prized as collector's items. Notable events in late-'60s music history are included on the calendar's grid pages.
