Biography

  • Born Jul 2nd 1973 in Fairfield, CA

A promising young tenor saxophonist, Teodross Avery made his recording debut as a leader on GRP when he was a few days short of turning 21. He had studied classical guitar when he was ten, switched to alto at 13, and a few years later took up the tenor. Avery studied with Joe Henderson, attended Berklee, and soon was leading his own group. In 1993, he appeared on a Carl Allen record and then utilized his quartet on his GRP debut. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
